The  Hand  Of  Rebirth Materials: Clay, wire, cardboard, canvas, paperboard, black and white paint, tapes, glue gun, paper

Form: Mixed Media Sculpture,2023

The inspiration to make this piece came from a cardboard box. When I saw this cardboard box, I had the idea of hiding myself, as if hiding myself in a protective shell. My initial idea was to use the cardboard material to create a cylindrical structure that could be wrapped around my entire body, completely encasing myself in it.

However, during the process of creation, I gradually realised that if I reached out a hand from this closed structure, it would give me a sense of power to break through, as if I was breaking through the boundaries. This inspiration led me to shift from the initial concept of ‘concealment’ to the theme of ‘breakthrough’, which ultimately led to the formation of this work. By showing myself breaking free and breaking through, I hope this work can convey the meaning of growth and self-liberation.

This work, entitled the hand of rebirth, symbolizes the process of challenging myself, breaking through obstacles, and pursuing rebirth. The hand in the work is made of clay and supported by steel wires, presenting a powerful gesture that symbolizes the power to break through the constraints and the desire for rebirth.

The main structure consists of cardboard and canvas, forming a cylinder shape from which the hand bursts out, conveying the intention of breaking free. I chose white as the main color to symbolize purity and a positive attitude; on the white surface, a black element represents the resistance and obstacles on my way forward.

In addition, a spiky design is added to the structure to symbolize the burdens on my body that hinder my progress. Through this work, I would like to express a strong desire to break free from these constraints and achieve true rebirth and growth.
